A little irreverence to brighten your day.

And on a similar-ish note, I just watched the first episode of "Extras" with Ricky Gervais and laughed riotously/uncomfortably throughout. Cheers to him for making atheism a major theme of a first episode. The BBC gets away with everything. I can't imagine an American show doing that. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the series.
Extras is fantastic, but be prepared to be intensely uncomfortable for much of it. It puts the (BBC) Office to shame. Also, it's a minor point, but was co-produced by BBC and HBO. So technically it's kind of an American show.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you watch Community on NBC, but they do some very warm and intelligent (for a network sitcom) commentary on religion. One of the main characters is an atheist (and a vegetarian) and another is an agnostic; the great thin is that neither position is ever put down or criticized by the writers.
It's probably one of the most atheist-friendly TV shows I've seen precisely because it is so matter-of-fact and non-confrontational.
